matharvest Zimmer's second full length is striking in its execution. The production is stronger; the balearics, more fluid. Amour is a great step forward in his discography and one of my favourites of 2022. Fingers crossed for an (Extended Versions) next year.

Edit, just realized all of the guest artists are the other people on the cover. Pretty neat detail! Favorite track: Vahiné (ft. Antoine Lang).

Zimmer wanted more simplicity and humanity in the conception of this new album "Amour": from the collaborations ("These are people I admire, with whom I've wanted to work for a long time in a physical way and not in a virtual way by exchanging files") to the artwork, from the chiseled and committed lyrics to the evocation of his memories of DJing all around the planet, from South America to Beirut. A second album whose universal name perfectly sums up Zimmer's philosophy. This vital need of connection and sharing guided by dance and music, this freedom to vibrate and to give thrills, as he sums it up perfectly: "I like emotional rollercoasters, and I think it is strongly felt in this new album. I am constantly divided in my music between the solar and melancholic side which are permanently intertwined, I like these moments on the dancefloor where you are divided between the euphoria and the nostalgia, between the collective experience and the intimate. All those moments of intense joy where you almost want to cry on the dancefloor!"

about

Three years after a first album soberly entitled Zimmer, the Parisian electronic producer brings us Amour, a new record that resonates end of summer vibes. A warm and human record to be listened to on a dancefloor with your eyes closed. "When I finished my album, I realized that I had written electronic love songs, so the word "Amour" came to mind. I think it's a beautiful word. Flamboyant and monumental, but also sweet and embracing."

Written and produced between France and the United States, Zimmer's two beloved countries, the album Amour navigates between dream pop indie and slow techno. Humanity naturally surfaces through sound and voice. "I wanted this album to be alive and sensitive. So, there are four tracks with guests and three other tracks where I intervene vocally.

Regarding the guests, Zimmer has surrounded himself with singers and musicians whom he respects and with whom he has made authentic connections. The principle: no exchanging the instrumental files on which the guest places their voice from the other end of the world. Each piece was created together. For "Dani" with Matt Koenig, alias The Undercover Dream Lovers, and for "Silverlake" with Amo Amo, the recordings took place in Los Angeles. "Vahiné" with Antoine Lang and "Na Praia" with Paulá were recorded in Paris. "Talking, eating, spending the day together, each meeting allowed us to start or continue a story. This shared fullness and calming, joyful feelings are reflected in Zimmer's compositions with his guests. They constitute a certain "human warmth" that Parisians are searching for and a universal character with voices in English, Portuguese, and French for the first time. He is also behind the microphone, soberly, for three tracks ("Habibi", "Lac", and "Afterlife"). Breaths, little bits of voice, a few whispered words, the producer has taken to capturing his voice and featuring these three tracks himself.
